Washington: Celebrities Including Kerry Washington, Danny Glover, And Rosie O'donnell Have Launched A Campaign To End Donald Trump's Bid For The White House.

The businessman-turned-TV personality is the current frontrunner for the Republican party nomination ahead of the U.S. presidential election this year, but thousands of Americans are voicing their opposition as part of a drive called Stop Hate, Dump Trump.

Since he announced his political ambitions last year, Trump has been under fire for controversial remarks about Mexican immigrants, women, and Muslims, and campaign organisers categorise him as a ‘a grave threat to democracy, freedom, human rights, equality, and the welfare of our country and all our people.’

Among the stars who are supporting the Stop Hate, Dump Trump campaign are Washington, Glover, O'Donnell, Lily Tomlin, Connie Britton, Cynthia Nixon, Jane Fonda, Harry Belafonte, Thandie Newton, Dylan MCDermott, and director Michael Moore, among others. Also lending her support is activist and playwright Eve Ensler, who says in a statement, ‘Trump is a frontrunner candidate who promises to 'build a wall' on our borders, humiliates and denigrates Muslims, women, immigrants, racial minorities as part of his 'stump speech,' allows protesters to be beaten at his rallies and in fact encourages hostility toward anyone who disagrees with him.

‘We are offering Americans a chance to be heard and engage in action, as Trump's campaign gain momentum even as he increases his hateful and divisive rhetoric.’–COZ

Since launching the campaign last week, the petition has garnered nearly 8,000 signatures.
