MULTAN/GUJRANWALA - The killer Swine Flu (H1N1) virus continued to take human lives in South Punjab as another female patient died in Nishtar Hospital on Monday, raising the total number of flu-related casualties to 28. Hospital sources revealed that the deceased woman was 45 years old and belonged to Jhang. Sources further disclosed that still 10 patients infected with influenza virus are being treated at the hospital.
Health sources disclosed that a total of 39 patients lost their lives across South Punjab due to influenza infection out of which 28 died in Multan, seven Bahawalpur and four in other areas of the region. A total of 228 patients have so far been brought to Nishtar Hospital on suspicion of influenza since December 15.
In Gujranwala, two suspected cases of swine flu (H1N1) have been reported here on Monday. The patients - both women - Nusrat Bibi and Salamat Bibi, residents of Peoples Colony were brought to DHQ hospital with symptoms of the disease. Upon clinical tests, both the women were diagnosed as having H1N1. They were shifted to the isolation ward set up for swine flu patients.
