Pathetic domestic system, nepotism behind NZ series defeat

Islamabad-Bhutto Cricket Academy chairman Chaudhry Ajmal Sabir termed pathetic domestic system and nepotism behind Pakistan cricket team’s 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Black Caps in the ODI series.

Talking to The Nation, Ajmal Sabir, who has vast experience of working as manager of Rawalpindi and Islamabad regions and also OGDCL Sports Board vice president, said: “The way green caps lost against weak Kiwis is a clear indication that Pakistan team lack motivation and planning, which led them to such disgrace. The team is on constant decline, but it seems PCB chairman Najam Aziz Sethi is unmoved and not bothered to wake up from deep slump.

“It was time and again mentioned in the past that Pakistan domestic system badly lacks modern-day planning and nepotism is also on the rise. The top performers of the domestic cricket are being ignored badly and the persons, who don’t know the ABC of cricket, are ruling the roost, while the legends like Abdul Qadir, Miandad, Mohsin Khan, Sarfraz Nawaz, Aamir Sohail and others are never consulted. The entire cricketing world knows these living greats, but the PCB is living under fool’s paradise, as they never ever bothered to take advantage from these cricket greats,” he added.

Ajmal questioned the purpose of introducing drafting system in domestic cricket, saying it was just introduced to give benefits to blue-eyed ones and further deprive genuine talent, who has already limited scope to represent their regions at higher level. “I can challenge that these so-called cricketing geniuses to come on table and I will prove them not only wrong, but also unearth the real hidden agenda behind introducing the drafting system in domestic cricket, which is nothing to do with cricket but to oblige their near and dear ones.

“I want to know one simple thing from the PCB chairman, why he is a silent spectator and when the talented and genuine players will be given their due rights? Why a few certain individuals are given so many powers to ruin the careers of future of Pakistan cricket, who are performing with leather and willow in domestic cricket but they were never considered for even regional teams,” he said.

“The top performers like Kamran Akmal, Sadaf Hussain and Fawad Alam are ignored which is a sheer injustice with such talented players, who deserve to serve the national team at international level. If M Aamir could be cleared to represent Pakistan again, then why not top performer of this domestic season Salman Butt and M Asif given chances in the national team? I demand PCB chairman Najam Sethi to take action against such culprits, who are depriving the genuine talent of their basic right and select the national team on merit, as it is the only viable solution to Pakistan cricket woes,” he concluded.
