| Abdul Haye Dasti says govt committed to make country polio-free

MUZAFFARGARH  -   Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister on Agriculture, Abdul Haye Khan Dasti, on Saturday said the provincial government was committed to eradicate polio from the province for which all resources were being utilised.

He said that polio free Pakistan was our destination and the goal would be achieved achieve soon. He expressed these views while inaugurating polio vaccination campaign by administering anti-polio drops to kids here at Health office. Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Health Dr Fayyaz Khan Gopang and other officials were also present on the occasion.

Abdul Haye Dasti said the results of the polio campaign were proving that the programme had taken the right direction.

The government was committed to make the country a polio-free and cooperation of all schools of thought including media, Ulema, civil society and especially parents was direly needed to ensure that all children from birth to five years were vaccinated to eradicate the disease.

The deputy commissioner said that a special polio campaign was being launched in the district from January 24 to 28. He urged the parents across the district to get their kids administered anti-polio drops under five years old during the campaign.

Syed Musa Raza said the performance regarding polio campaign was satisfactory and directed officials to follow instructions during the campaign and no negligence would be tolerated.

Health CEO Dr Fayyaz Khan Gopang said that children up to five years of age were affected by polio and could be cured from this disease by administering drops to children against polio, he added.

Youth ends life by jumping into Indus River

A youngster committed suicide by jumping into Indus River here at Head Taunsa Bridge while another one was rescued by local people.

According to Rescue officials, control room received a call from ASI Imtiaz that two youngsters came at Head Taunsa Bridge from where 22-year-old youngster namely Tariq s/o Talib resident of Ward No 6 tehsil Kot Addu jumped into the river while local people saved another one while jumping into the river.

Rescue 1122 control room immediately dispatched an ambulance, rescue team and rescue boat from rescue station Kot Addu to the incident site.

The rescue team has launched search operation for the drowning youth. The police concerned was investigating into the incident.

People urged to stay away from electricity installations during rainy season

Superintending Engineer, Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO), Muzaffargarh circle, Malik Muhammad Yousuf urged the people on Saturday to stay away from electricity installations during rainy season for their safety. 

In a statement issued here, the SE said that people from rural as well as urban areas should avoid their presence under the transformers, wire conductors, and do not park their vehicles there. They should avoid presence or those of their cattle heads near electric poles, touching them or any other installation, avoid using metal wire to dry up their clothes, and do not touch any switch, wire or appliances when their hands, shoe or clothes are wet. He said that touching metallic water pipes and their use in any way should also be avoided.

Engineer Muhammad Yousuf said that construction of structure, setting stalls or hand carts under high voltage wire conductors was not only illegal but also pose threat to life of the people. He asked people to convey information regarding any emergency to concerned sub division, division or MEPCO customer service centre/complaint centre. Yousuf also advised MEPCO field staff to wear all accessories and opt for all precautions before rectifying faults in the installations for their safety. He also laid emphasis on enforcement of novel coronavirus SOPs at all MEPCO offices and installations.
