LAHORE - Provincial Minister for Disaster Management Mian Khalid Mehmood Saturday met the families of the victims of Murree tragedy including ASI Naveed Iqbal in Dodial village of Tala Gang tehsil in Chakwal.
After expressing condolences to the families, the provincial minister also presented compensation cheques to them on behalf of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar.
Talking to the affected families, he said that the environmental intensity, rain, snow, landslides were all natural factors. “In order to minimise the damage during natural disasters, the public needs to cooperate with the authorities.” The minister also told them that action had been initiated against those responsible after a detailed report of the incident.
“A comprehensive planning is being evolved to control the losses due to such natural calamities in future. The functioning of administrative bodies is being improved through effective monitoring,” he said. “Every eye is full of sorrow and heart is saddened by the loss of precious lives in the Murree tragedy,” he added.
He appealed to the people through the affected families to keep in view the forecasts of the Meteorological Department for protection against natural disasters, observe orders of law enforcement agencies and precautionary measures issued by the agencies concerned so that such unfortunate incidents could be avoided in future.
Provincial Minister for Natural Disasters and Provincial Minister for Minerals Hafiz Yasir Ammar were also present on the occasion.
The provincial ministers distributed cheques worth Rs6.4 million to the heirs of ASI Naveed and two other families on behalf of Punjab Chief Minister.
