The Ministry of Petroleum and Gas has decided upon yet another raise of 14 percent hike in petroleum products while NEPRA also finalized a new power tariff. Sugar prices have been raised by six rupees per kilogram while the price of 20 kg flour sack at Utility Stores of NWFP, Balochistan and Sindh has also been increased from 365 rupees to 400 rupees. This is alarming. People are now getting fed up of these daily price increases. The situation is getting out of control, with the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. The middle class is bearing the brunt of the new inflation. Soaring prices of basic commodities is making life difficult for the common man and there is no relief in sight. So much for the slogan of Roti Kapra aur Makan. -DINA JAFFAR, Lahore Cantt., via e-mail, July 21.
