Star of day three

Malik masters Sri Lanka Throughout this series Shoaib Malik had got starts but failed to convert it into something substantial. He has had scores of 38, 0, 39*, 6 and 45 before this innings. However, things changed this time round as Malik who came into bat with Pakistan in a spot of bother at 67-4. He put his head down and started to gather runs. The conditions weren't easy and then the Sri Lankans bowled tightly. In the early part, Malik played with caution . He combined well with Misbah-ul-Haq who too batted responsibly. Both batsmen ensured that Pakistan didn't lose any more wickets in the post lunch session and went into tea at 168-4. Now Shoaib started to play his shots along with taking singles to rotate the strike. Misbah fell soon after tea for 65 as the partnership yielded 119 runs for the fifth wicket. Gradually, Malik started bisecting the field regularly. Malik completed his fifty off 101 balls and then increased the tempo. After Misbah's departure, Malik found another able ally in Kamran Akmal as the two put together another valuable unbroken partnership of 114 runs for the sixth wicket. Malik completed his second Test hundred in grand style hitting Rangana Herath for a four and a six to reach the landmark off 178 balls.
