SEHWAN (INP) - Up to 19 devotees lost their lives in separate incidents of suffocation and drowning during last three-day Urs celebrations of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar here. The deceased were among the thousands of devotees who came from different parts of the country to pay homage to Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar on his 759th Urs. Six devotees drowned in the canal while suffocation claimed the lives of 13 others in the town. The Sehwan Edhi Centre said that Shahzad s/o Sharif and Babar Raza s/o Tufial, both residents of Lyari, Karachi, drowned while taking bath in the canal. Four more unknown people lost their lives in drowning incidents. The Edhi divers fished out their bodies and shifted to hospital where the bodies of Shahzad and Babar were handed over to their relatives. The bodies of the four unidentified people were kept in the mortuary of the hospital. Suffocation claimed the live of 13 people, including two women. Eight deceased were identified as Nazia w/o Gulzar, Bashir Ahmed r/o Lahore, Mumtaz Hussain r/o Khanewal, Falak Sher r/o Khanewal, Manzooran r/o Lodheran, Tariq r/o Lahore, Sajjad r/o Lahore and Shahid r/o Rahim Yar Khan. The bodies were handed over to their relatives while the other four deceased whose identification could not be ascertained were laid to rest by Edhi volunteers in the town. Hyderabad Division Commissioner Ahmed Bux Narejo, who reviewed the Urs arrangements at a meeting, had expressed his condolence over the deaths during the Urs celebrations and had directed the revenue officers for imposing Section 144 prohibiting swimming and taking necessary precautionary measures so that precious lives of the people could be saved.
