KASUR - A helper was killed and 20 students sustained serious injuries when a school van overturned due to speeding near Village Dhing Shah in Khudian police limits Friday. A school van, carrying students, was on its way to Khudian when it overturned near Village Dhing Shah at Deepalpur Road owing to reckless drive and speeding, killing helper Abdul Majeed on the spot and inuring 20 students. The injured were rushed to local hospital. Meanwhile, land dispute claimed the life of a farmer at Village Gohar Jageer. Muhammad Din along with his accomplices allegedly shot dead Rehamat Ali when he was working in his fields. Police were investigating. Ringleader among 7 gangsters netted: The Kasur police claimed to have netted seven gangsters, including the ringleader, and recovered three snatched motorcycles, cash, illegal weapons and other valuables worth Rs0.8 million rupees. Kasur DPO Khuram Ali told a press conference at his office that Liaquat, alias Foji, was leading a gang of 15 robbers, which was involved in looting buses and passers-by. To curb crimes in the district, the DPO constituted a special team headed by Additional SP Kamran Adil, which busted the gang. The arrested included Mushtaq, Alam Sher, Mansha, Akram, Khalid and Munawar Abbas. The raids for the arrest of the escaped robbers were underway.
