LONDON (Agencies) - Kevin Pietersen hit his third double century, an unbeaten 202, as England declared their first innings at 474/8 on the second day of the first Test against India at Lord's on Friday. Pietersen's unbeaten knock was studded with a six and 21 boundaries and it took the sheen off Praveen Kumar's maiden five-wicket haul. Praveen registered his maiden five-wicket haul when he dismissed Matt Prior and Stuart Broad off successive deliveries. Praveen took his fourth wicket when he had Prior caught behind by MS Dhoni and on the next ball trapped Broad plumb in front of the wicket. Prior hit 71 and added 120 runs with Kevin Pietersen for the sixth wicket. Pietersen and Prior took England to 305/5 at tea. Praveen Kumar dismissed Ian Bell and Eoin Morgan in one over after Pietersen hit the slowest century of his career. Praveen had both Bell and Morgan caught behind by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Bell hit 45 runs and added 110 runs with Pietersen for the fourth wicket before edging an outswinger as Dhoni took a good diving catch. The breakthroughs came after Pietersen hit his fifth century at Lord's and eighteenth overall. This is also Pietersen's first Test century since December 2010. honi handed over his keeping gloves to Rahul Dravid and bowled the first over after lunch. Dhoni's first ball was a sharp in-cutter that hit Kevin Pietersen on the pads but umpire Billy Bowden turned down the LBW appeal. In his next over, Pietersen seemed to have edged a delivery that went into the hands of Dravid and umpire Bowden even gave it out, but Pietersen went for the review and the Hot Spot did not show any edge off the bat, so the decision had to be over-turned. Dhoni bowled five overs and resumed his keeping duties only after taking the second new ball after 87 overs. Pietersen and Ian Bell took England to 217/3 in their first innings at lunch. Pietersen was unbeaten on 71 and Ian Bell on 28 as England added 90 runs to their overnight score of 127/2. Pietersen hit his 24th half-century soon after Praveen Kumar trapped Jonathan Trott plumb in front of the wicket. Praveen gave India a much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Trott who hit 70 runs and added 98 runs with Pietersen for the third wicket.
