Islamabad - The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has initiated grand operation against illegal slums and other encroachments in different areas of the city.

The enforcement directorate of the authority on Wednesday demolished more than 85 illegal houses constructed on the green belts between Sectors I-9 and H-10 of the federal capital.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of deputy director general estate and land, which was also participated by the assistant commissioner ICT, SSP, area DSP, police force and the enforcement staff of Capital Development Authority.

During the operation, dozens of the illegally constructed slums were razed using the heavy machinery. Whereas some of the illegal occupants have been given two days time to remove the encroachments at their own, failing which the Capital Development Authority would raze those illegal houses as well.

Prior to Eid-ul-Fitr, the Capital Development Authority had intimated the illegal occupants and the encroachers through public awareness notices, announcements in the mosques and through the media for vacating the Capital Development Authority land to avoid operation against them.

The operation is being carried out with the approval of the ministry of interior. The Islamabad High Court had also directed for operation against illegal slums in the capital city.

The Capital Development Authority has announced that this operation would be conducted on daily basis to ensure removal of the encroachments. Special teams of enforcement directorate would continue operation on Thursday in I-10 and H-10.

Member Administration and Estate, Amer Ali Ahmed has directed to vigorously carry out the operation across the board to ensure vacation of Capital Development Authority land from the encroachers and removal of the illegal slums.

He has also directed to ensure an effective monitoring mechanism to discourage re-emergence of encroachments in these areas and make this campaign a success.
