LAHORE - Pakistans Twenty20 World Cup winning team arrived here in the early hours of Wednesday at the Allama Iqbal International Airport. But thousands of cricket lovers who had gathered at the airport to give a rousing welcome to their heroes were greatly disappointed when the team was transported out via Haj Terminal due to security concerns. Despite the odd timing of the flight, and despite very tight security, cricket fans gathered in huge numbers at the airport. There were green flags flying everywhere and the moment the players walked out, fans took them on their shoulders. There were scenes of dance at the airport. The team reached via Dubai. It is worth a mention that Younus Khan and Shahid Afridi are still in England owing to their personal reasons. Afridi had requested the PCB a rest of some days before playing the series in Sri Lanka. The national heroes were garlanded with flowers. Such has been the jubilations all around the country that even the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani asked the nation to greet the victorious national cricket team in a befitting manner. I, myself will greet the team at the Prime Minister House, Gilani said. The National Assembly has passed a resolution congratulating the team for victory. Pakistan added the World Twenty20 title to their World Cup crown with a convincing eight-wicket win over Sri Lanka at Lords on Sunday after a brilliant bowling and batting performance.
