Ex-top cop unhappy over war on Taliban

LAHORE - Former FIA Director General and ex-IG Sindh Syed Salman Khaliq has said that forced indoctrination of ideologies by Taliban has given an opportunity to foreign forces to pit ISI and Taliban against each other. He said that Pak Army should realise that the nation would not benefit from fight against Taliban. Pakistan and foreign forces present in Afghanistan had their own interests and the present government should review its policy and take decisions in national interest instead of working on foreign dictation. He said greed was major reason for every kind of terrorism. He expressed these views while answering questions of participants on lecture series held under the aegis of Nawa-i-Waqt, TheNation and Waqt News on the topic of Threats to national security and their solution on Wednesday. He said terrorist are a big threat to national security. He said terrorism can be divided into three categories; First attacks on Army and police are launched. Second, intolerance against persons having different ideology. Third, enemies perform acts of terrorism by hired assassins. He said terrorism acts in country are reaction to drone attacks because innocent people are being killed in the attacks. He maintained that Army and police were being attacked in response to Nato forces action. He held that problems faced by the country like loadshedding, poverty and reduction in foreign direct investment are due to deteriorating law and order situation. He said that during Musharraf regime, friendly Taliban turned our foes. Talking about targeted killings, he held provincial governments responsible for target killings in Balochistan and Karachi.
