GUJRAT - A 28-year-old murder accused and court absconder surrendered before Bulani police which raided his house to arrest him in Nandana village, reliable sources and family members of the accused told The Nation yesterday.

However, the police are not showing official arrest of the accused who was identified as Malik Sadaat Ali aka Saadu son of Malik Shaukat Ali and detained him in some private torture cell, they said.

The family members of the accused, who is also involved in launching armed attack on cops, accused police of engineering plan to kill Malik in a fake encounter.

According to sources and family members, a heavy contingent of police headed by Station House Officer (SHO) Police Station Bulani Sajid Abbas carried out a raid at house of Malik Sadaat Ali located at Nandana village at 9am.

Seeing the police, Malik who was staying in a room situated on first floor of his house ran away and took refuge in house of neighbours in a bid to avoid arrest, they said ,adding, that police went to a mosque of the village and made announcements asking Malik to surrender before police and to not show resistance or open firing on police, otherwise, he would be shot by police.

Acting upon advice of police party, Malik Sadaat dropped the weapons and surrendered himself before police, the sources and family members maintained. They said that the police shifted the accused to some unknown location instead of taking him to police station and showing his official arrest in daily crime register.

An eyewitness Rahat Ali Malik told this correspondent that he was present in his house when he heard noise of vehicles in the village.

"I rushed out of my house and saw police surrounding the house of Malik Sadaat. Later, police made announcement in loudspeakers of a mosque asking Sadaat to surrender to police. Sadaat surrendered before police," he said.

Malik Arshad Ali, the uncle of Sadaat, said that his nephew obeyed orders of police and surrendered before them.

He alleged that police had detained his nephew in a private cell instead of locking him up in a police station.

"Since my nephew is involved in attacking cops, police may kill him in a bogus encounter," he said.

Arshad appealed to Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif and Inspector General of Police Punjab Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera to come forward and take notice of the injustice of Bulani police.

District Police Officer (DPO) Gujrat Rai Zameer ul Haq and SHO PS Bulani Sajid Abbas did not repond to many phone calls and SMS made/sent by this correspondent on their cell numbers to know their official version.

A Moharar of Bulani police station upon contacting denied the arrest of Sadaat. However, Madam Nabeela, the spokesperson to IG Punjab, when approached and was told about the saga, pledged to bring the matter into notice of IG Punjab for further action.

Bulani police booked Malik Sadaat Ali and his father Malik Shaukat Ali in a murder case 12 years ago after his elder brother Malik Sadaqat Ali allegedly killed a man Malik Nadim.

The killer hid himself while police arrested Malik Shaukat and a court of law granted him (Shaukat) bail in the murder case.

However, Malik Sadaat tried to settle dispute with Malik Nawaz, brother of deceased Malik Nadim, and opened firing on him over refusal.

Nawaz remained unhurt. An attempted murder case was also lodged in Bulani police station.

Later on Malik Sadaat was declared as court absconder after he escaped court proceedings.

Later on Sadaat shot and injured a cop when a police party trapped him to arrest him. Attempted murder case was registered against Malik in the same police station.
