LAHORE - Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) announced their football team for the NBP National Football Challenge Cup to be played at Hyderabad from 15-28 April 2009 under aegis of Pakistan Football Federation (PFF). According to SSGC Chief Manager (Sports) Zubair Ahmed, former PIA's coach and FIFA Referee Syed Karimuddin Nawab will act as head coach of the team, to be assisted by Nasim Ahmed and GK Coach Pir Muhammad. Shahnawaz Ishaq will lead the team while Zaman Ghani will act his deputy. Other players in 24-player squad in Karachi-based team are Rashid Ahmed, Noor Ali, Aijaz Ahmed, Rustam Khan, Imran Hussain, Aftab Ahmed, Attaullah, Asim Faiz, Faisal Ashraf, Ashiq Ali, Manzoor Ali, Abdul Samad, Muhamamd Rashid, Farid Baloch, Shahid Rasool, Shahzad Hashmi, Khalil Ahmed, Shakir Raza, Muhammad Nawaz, Muhammad Ishaq, Muhammad Javed and Shahid Hussain. SSGC belong to Gulshan-e-Iqbal's Block 14, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Karachi and they qualified for 16-team Hyderabad show by virtue of earning berth in top four of PFF League (Departmental Phase) 2008. Navy will defend the title in the 32-match event and other 14 participants will be National Champions Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Pakistan Army, Khan Research Laboratories (KRL), National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC), Habib Bank Limited (HBL), Lahore's Pak Elektron Limited (PEL), Pakistan Steel, Pakistan Television (PTV), Pakistan Air Force, Pakistan Railways, Sindh Government Press (SGP). "We are looking for better results in coming edition after unimpressive form last year - losing to WAPDA and NBP in tough Group. SSGC is in fine touch lately, earning semi-final berth in recently-concluded PFF League. We drew Police 0-0, SGP 1-1 and outplayed PPWD in Group-A before losing narrowly the semi-final 0-1 at the hands of two-times National Champion Pakistan Railways," said head coach S.K.Nawab.
