PU starts rugby programme

LAHORE - University of Punjab Additional Director sports Farhat Hussian Saddiqi and Mr Zubair Butt (PU sports officer) met with Pakistan Rugby Union President Fawzi Khawaja asking for help in starting a rugby program for the University of Punjab. University of Punjab is the largest and oldest seat of the higher learning in Pakistan established in 1882 the main campus is located in the historical and culturally alive city of Lahore. The Additional Director Sports came with some of its start athletes to the DHA ground where the coaches and players were given a introduction to rugby and were able to watch the ongoing Pakistan team camp and games. He has asked the PRU to give it coaching and technical assistance and pledged to start rugby not only at the university level but also introduce rugby in the university own games. PRU President Fawzi Khawaja assured that they will provide full support to Punjab University to develop a rugby team. University of Punjab will be taking part in the upcoming Intervarsity Rugby Championship which is hosted by the HEC under the technical supervision of the Pakistan Rugby Union. This years Intervarsity Rugby Championship will be the second championship in which 12 universities are taking part.
