RAWALPINDI - Violence erupted at Bhoosa Godown, Dhoke Ratta, on Thursday when the furious residents of Katchi Abadis allegedly thrashed police and officials of Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) Enforcement Cell with sticks and stones to stop them from getting a piece of land vacated.

According to law-enforcers and RTMA officials, they had to face stiff resistance during a clash with over 100 encroachers who had built their houses on a land at Bhoosa Godown that was actually reserved for construction of a boys college by the Punjab government.

They said that the tenants of Katchi Abadis pelted police and team of RTMA Enforcement Cell with stones when the later reached the area. They said that around 90 kenals of land have been reserved for a boys college, falling in the jurisdiction of Police Station Ratta. They said that during the brawl two officials of RTMA got injured. Town Officer (Regulation) Malik Tauseef Ahmed, however, when contacted, confirmed the incident saying he along with a team of Enforcement Cell reached the scene to vacate the land grabbed by land grabbers. He said that the land grabbers hit police and Enforcement Cell with sticks and stones and injured two inspectors Sohbat Khan and Muhammad Iqbal. Both were shifted to hospital for medical treatment while the rest officials fled from the scene to avoid the wrath of residents of Katchi Abadis, he added. He said that a complaint was filed with the area police against the residents who maimed RTMA officials.

He said that operation would be continued while the land would also be evacuated on every cost.

Station House Officer (SHO) Ratta Syed Jawad Shah, when approached, was not aware about the incident while a Moherer in police station informed that a case on the complaint of TO (Regulation) Malik Tauseed Ahmed has been registered against two residents - Khan Bahadur and Rafique alias Meero.
