KARACHI - Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Thursday said that 23rd March is very important day in Pakistan’s history. The day is celebrated by the nation with a great zeal and in a very organised manner. On this day, in 1940 a historical resolution was passed in Lahore.

In light of the resolution the Muslims of this subcontinent struggled for an independent Muslim country under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Millions of people sacrificed their lives during this historical movement, he said. In his message on occasion, the Chief Minister said Pakistan’s creation was the result of this resolution. Province of Sindh and its people had also played a very important role in getting the independent Muslim country. Sindh Assembly had passed a resolution for the creation of Pakistan. Whereas, he said, the leaders of Pakistan People’s Party Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto sacrificed their lives for strengthening democracy and for prosperity of the country.  Qaim Ali Shah said that under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and in the pursuance of 23rd March resolution, the present Government has been working for prosperity, stability and solidarity of the country, and promotion of democratic values.

In its mission the Government has taken major political forces on board as per its policy of reconciliation and co-existence. He hoped that the PPP-led Government would succeed in bringing prosperity in the country and achieve the objectives of 23rd March 1940 resolution.

KWSB MD says clean water prime responsibility: Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) Managing Director Misbahuddin Fareed has said that provision of clean water to Karachiites is prime responsibility of the board.  This, he said, during his visit of KWSB water filter plants on the occasion of “Water Day” here on Thursday. Talking to the staff of the plants he said that maximum efforts should the taken to provide clean water to people as per standard set by WHO.

The MD also visited Central Water Laboratory of KWSB and inspected the equipment being used for the checking of water samples. He also directed the concerned officials to replace the faulty equipment to ensure quality of the water, being supplied to the metropolis.
