ISLAMABAD - Pakistani origin World Kickboxing champion in +48kg and +85kg Syed Haider Mannan has selected six players in Karachi after month-long training camp to participate in the 7th WKC World Championship 2015 to be held in Albuferia, Portugal.

Mannan came all the way from England to prepare Pakistani players for the mega kickboxing event, just because of sheer love for his beloved country.

Talking to The Nation, Haider said: “It was my one of my big dreams to help Pakistani players prepare for the mega kickboxing events. I wrote to Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) last year and offered my services to help Pakistani youth train and participate in international events, but despite lapse of more than one year, the request is still pending with the PSB. I didn’t demand any incentive, cash or other favours, but I just wanted the PSB to support and allow me to establish a camp, where I might first conduct trials and then select seven players and take them to Karachi for a mega camp. I planned to pick around 14 boys in different categories for different international events, but I am quite surprised, no one from the PSB bothered to reply me at least.

“I was left with no other option, but to come to Pakistan and do all the things on my own. I decided to land in Karachi which has immense talent and passionate players. The way I got response from the kids is hard to explain in words. As soon as I announced the trials, despite no backing from electronic and print media, the turnout was beyond my expectations, as around 100 kids from different age groups and weight categories reached for the trials. After the three-day trials, I decided to pick six players, who will represent Pakistan in the world kickboxing championship,” he added.

Haider asserted: “I will soon travel to Islamabad and pick around 6 to 8 more boys for the said event. I want to request the PSB to help me in arranging trials and establishing training camp, as I have still time left to prepare boys for the mega event. I can assure, I will create ripples in international arena with these talented boys. I am dead sure with the amount of talent these lads possess, they will not disappoint me and the entire nation and return with medals.”

He said he had established headquarter in Karachi and would also establish an office in Islamabad. “I have spent all the money from my own pocket. As I have dual nationality, I will continue to visit England and Pakistan on frequent basis. I am confident with little extra effort and proper guidance, Pakistani players can excel at the top. I have selected six players i.e. Abdul Subhan Sheik (48kg), Shoaib Sheikh (30kg), Azeem Us Salam (+75kg), Kunwar Faheem (+60kg), M Ayaz (+85kg), Adnan Mahr (+70kg) while M Yameen is selected as manager. I will select same number or even more from Islamabad soon. I will expand the network to other major cities as well but for this, I need sponsors as it is a mega project and ultimate result will be honour and respect for the country at international level.”

“I need sufficient amount of funds, I request persons like Malik Riaz to come forward and join hands with me for this noble cause. I am sure Malik Riaz and the persons like him will surely lend a helping hand to the deserving players who will surely do their best to keep green flag high across the world,” Haider concluded.
