ISLAMABAD- Provincial governments are providing training facilities to strawberry growers in major growing districts in order to increase cultivation of the crop. The government of Punjab has no special programme but it is implementing village level farmer training programmes for the promotion of the crop. Sources at Ministry of National Food Security and Research on Sunday said the Provincial Agriculture Extension Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa disseminates production technology of strawberry through field staff to growers for its promotion in the province.
The growers are acquainted with cultivation of strawberry imparting training, field days, distribution of literature etc.
Giving year-wise strawberry cultivation details in the country, the sources said in Punjab the strawberry crop was sown at 1905 acres of land during 2012-13, 2506 acres during 2013-14 and the crop was sown at 2330 acres of land during 2014-15.
Similarly, the sources said in KPK the strawberry crop was sown at 860 acres of land during 2012-13, 950 acres during 2013-14 and the crop was sown at 730 acres of land during 2014-15.
In Balochistan strawberry is not being grown on commercial scale.
The average expenditure per acre on strawberry cultivation in is Punjab is Rs.200,000 to 250,000 and in KPK is Rs. 206,996 to Rs. 217,000.
