Islamabad: The Sui Northern Gas Company Limited (SNGPL) has apprehended the employees of gas theft of Haseeb Sugar Mills owned by ruling Sharif family , according to sources.

According to secret document received by The Nation, the technical staff of SNGPL went to the mills to change the gas meter as the mills employees exchanged harsh words with technical staff of the gas department and stopped them to change the meter.

“In the meanwhile, the mills administration sought stay order from local court. The staffers of SNGPL, later on, closed the supply of gas while closing the valve of the main gas pipeline,” the document added.

The document further said that committee of SNGPL sent the bill, including fine of gas theft amounting Rs 33.98 million to sugar mills .

The PPP’s then government had decided to receive Rs 10 million as bill of gas while giving Sugar Mills the incentive of Rs 21 million in gas theft, however the administration of the mills did not deposit the amount of Rs 10 million. The PPP’ government had ordered to restore the gas of the sugar mills despite not depositing the said amount to national exchequer.

The document further reveals that the mills administration had deposited the amount of approximately Rs 4.8 million of fine of gas theft, however, the guilty was not awarded punishment.

It is worth-mentioning here that PM Nawaz Sharif has recently passed a gas theft law.

As per report, items worth Rs 7.7 million have been stolen from the warehouse of Gas Company, however neither inquiry of this theft was conducted so far nor was any person held responsible of this loss.

When contacted with the spokesperson of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources to know stance in this regard, but he categorically refused to comment over it.
