IJ Principal Road rehabilitation in the offing

islamabad - The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has awarded the contract for rehabilitation and up-gradation of IJ Principal Road at a cost of Rs 168 million, which is 28% below the floor price amounting to Rs 228.00 million earlier approved in the PC-1 of the project.
Chairman CDA Maroof Afzal was informed this during a meeting held at CDA headquarters yesterday. The meeting was attended by Member Administration Amer Ali Ahmed, member engineering, member planning and design and other senior officers of the authority. Chairman CDA Maroof Afzal was apprised that IJ Principal Road, situated at the fringes of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, is of immense importance as it tackles huge traffic, especially the traffic emerging from Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir.
He was informed that under this project the IJ Principal Road from Pindora Chungi to GT Road will be re-carpeted, lane marking will be carried out and missing facilities will be provided. He was further informed that drainage system on the both sides of the road will be upgraded in addition to the uplift of green areas along the road. He was further informed that all codal formalities have been completed for immediate initiation of rehabilitation work on the project.
The chairman CDA was also briefed that all formalities and procedures for the construction of two under passes on Faisal Avenue at F-8/F-7 and G-8/G-7 has been completed and next few days tenders of the both projects will be floated in the national press so that the contract could be awarded.
The chairman CDA said that due to huge burden of light and heavy traffic on IJ Principal Road and further connecting it with Metro Bus Service, it was dire need of the hour to upgrade IJ Principal Road to facilitate the ever growing commuters.
He directed the concerned formations of the authority to take all possible measures and finalise the modalities for immediate initiation of up-gradation work on IJ Principal Road.
