Govt to send 0.3m labourers abroad

KARACHI - Pakistan People's Party-led government has decided to send 0.3 million jobless skilled labourers abroad to earn foreign exchange and to eradicate poverty from the country, sources in overseas federal ministry revealed The Nation here on Thursday. On the directives of PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Overseas Ministry had decided to start People's Youth Programme or Benazir Shaheed Youth Programme in which 0.3 million jobless youngsters would be recruited for six months prior to their departure abroad. The programme will be launched in 2008-09 budget. After getting training in different technical fields for six months, these youths will be send to Middle East and different European countries through overseas ministries. During the training Rs 6,000 stipend would be given to them. Sources in the ministry said that a summary had sent to the PM Secretariat for the approval of the programme. PPP in its manifesto committed with the people that the PPP government would provide jobs to jobless from each family of the country to eradicate poverty and for the welfare of the people. Sources in PPP said that Asif Ali Zardari had strictly directed the party ministers to make plans on war-footing to implement the party manifesto in letter and sprit following the paths of PPP Shaheed chairman Benazir Bhutto. "In this connection Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani has directed provincial governments to start a development programme under the name Benazir Bhutto and devise a strategy to recruit the youths and trained them to eliminate poverty. Sources in the Sindh government confirmed The Nation that after receiving instructions from the PM, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah chaired a meeting attended by senior officials of all provincial departments to implement the programme. In this connection Sindh CM has issued orders to all the administrative secretaries of the provincial departments of Sindh government and district coordination officers (DCOs) to provide information about the posts or departments where these youths could be appointed after completion of their training process and than would be sent to abroad.
