Asif Zardari says he was not provided justice when he went to CJ Iftakhar Chaudhry. Maulana Fazalur Rehman maintains that CJ Chaudhry blocked his Hisba Bill, therefore the restoration of CJ Chaudhry is not good for the country. Musharraf is also reluctant to restore judges because of his personal bitterness with CJ. It is heartbreaking to hear such personalized arguments of these leaders in whom the peoples have reposed their trust and voted their parties into power. We the gullible teeming millions were grossly mistaken for believing in the rhetoric of these demagogues. Zardari has exonerated MQM from its past sins and insists on bringing it into the government fold in Sindh despite having the required strength of PPP members in the provincial assembly for a majority at his disposal. Similarly, he has shown willingness to forget the past unconstitutional steps (particularly mutilation of the constitution) of the dictator Musharraf and is ready to work with him. But he is adamant not to extend the same reconciliatory gesture to CJ Chaudhry and other independent-minded judges of the deposed judiciary. -GULSHER PANHWER, Johi, District Dadu, via e-mail, May 5.
