ISLAMABAD PML-Q MNA Marvi Memon in her two separate letters written to Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has demanded a judicial inquiry into Hunza lake issue, asking why the precautionary steps were not taken to avoid the disaster that could be prevented. Marvi Memon has also sought concrete steps to address the grievances of Hunza affectees. In her letter to the PM, she wrote, I have been highlighting the issue of Hunza landslide since Jan 2010. I am disappointed that despite efforts your government has been unable to resolve the issue according to the satisfaction of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and they have suffered damages, which you can never compensate. While in her letter to the Chief Justice, she wrote, I have tried to use every possible tool inside and outside Parliament to get justice for the people of Hunza but failed. The top concerns are security, compensation, permanent alternative housing for the people who are being affected by this landslide. I also seek security for China land route that has been blocked since Jan 2010 and affecting national security. She asked the PM that her party, PML (Q), would appreciate if he initiate a judicial inquiry into Hunza lake issue to probe why the disaster, which could have been prevented, as two reports were presented by FOCUS and Geological survey in this regard, was not stopped. She also sought judicial inquiry into the matter where Chinese technical assistance was not accepted, besides asking which Ministry was responsible for this. She also asked the PM why compensation was not announced to the IDPs on his recent trip to Hunza. She further asked, How the Minister for Water & Power announced electricity project through this water at a time where the people were most distressed due to waters destructive impact? She said that the Government had lost credibility as the agreement with Diamir affectees had been reneged. She also sought time frame for reopening the route from China since it was an issue national security concern. I have tried to use every possible parliamentary tool at my disposal to get justice for the people of Hunza but Parliaments supremacy has been negatively impacted by missed commitments of your government, she regretted.
