LAHORE Strong Nepalese team, who edged out Sri Lanka 2-0 and India 1-0 in their final two matches in Format One, failed to beat spirited Pakistan in the first Format II match as the highly-entertaining clash between two well-known South Asian outfits ended in 1-1 draw on Saturday morning. The second format will also be used for matches on May 23 where each 60-minute match will be split into two halves of 30 minutes each. Nepal, who won the trophy twice in 2002 and 2004 in Kathmandu, have been participating in the event since 2002. In other matches on Saturday, Iran rally hard to beat Afghanistan 2-1 while Bangladesh overpowered Sri Lanka 3-1. The Nepalese were the first to settle down and struck opener through Aita Raj Limbu in the 24th minute and they carried slender lead alive until breather. Pakistan leveled the issue three minutes into second session through Faisalabad-born midfielder Muhammad Zeeshan. A total of eight teams are featuring in the annual event of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Apart from Nepal, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, hosts Iran, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are taking part in the event.
