ISLAMABAD Pakistans rising tennis sensational Samir Iftikhar kept countrys flag flying high with a straight sets win over Sam Hutt of Great Britain to reach last four of the ITF World Ranking Grade-IV Nazim Bari Cup being held in Istanbul, Turkey from May 18 to 24. With this win, Samir thus avenged his three-set defeat he received at the hands of Sam Hutt last February at Qatar Open. Samir recorded 6-2 and 6-1 win. Similarly in the quarter-finals, he earned a hardfought-win against Stefan Apostal of Romania to reach quarterfinals 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. According to the late information received here, the top-ranked international junior on ITF World Ranking Junior circuit and British-born Samir dubbed as world class talent by tennis experts won his third round match against the Romanian Stefan Apostol by displaying magnificent tennis. He broke the Romanians serve twice in the first set with display of powerful ground strokes and passing shots and won the first set 6/1. Apostal showed strong resistance and fought back by breaking Samir in the NINTH game with great return of serves to clinch the second set by 6-4. The third set hung in balance as both players fought gallantly but Samir displayed magnificent back hand down the line shots broke the Romanian to clinch the match. He faced British eighth seed Sam Hutt in the quarter-finals and the dual Pakistan-British citizen Samir, who has opted to represent Pakistan instead of Britain at Junior Davis Cup, outplayed Sam Hunt in straight sets. He will now meet No 1 seed Alaxendre Metrevili of Geprgia in the crucial semi-finals.
