LAHORE - Environment Department Secretary Saeed Iqbal Wahlah has said that the new Punjab Environmental Protection (Amendment) Act, 2012 is aimed at ensuring implementation of orders and directions given by the Punjab Environmental Protection Council (PEPC), EPA, the government, environmental magistrates, environmental tribunal and superior courts.
He was briefing the participants of a meeting held on Tuesday to discuss and get suggestions about the new proposed amendments in the Act. Stakeholders including legal experts, NGOs and environmental consultants attended the meeting chaired by Sessions Judge (r) Ch Ghulam Rasool.
The agenda of the meeting was to discuss and share the new amendments in the Environment Protection (Amendment) Act which would allow the authority to work more efficiently in handling the environment-related issues.
It was discussed that the existing laws did not give proper executive powers to prevent and control high-risk environmental accidents and damage from pollution.
