Lahore - The Philip Morris Pakistan Limited (PMPKL) has announced that it has challenged SRO 1086 (1) 2013 recently issued by the Federal Ministry of Health Services, Regulation and Coordination, in court. The company in a statement issued here Thursday said that it is seeking to challenge the legality of the federal government’s SRO 1086 (1) 2013 (SRO) because the authority to regulate these matters lies with the provinces, not the federal government. The company is not challenging other existing restrictions on tobacco product advertisements. The petition raises some very pertinent legal questions, since the 18th amendment passed by the parliament in the year 2010 had devolved health as a subject to the provinces.
