ISLAMABAD - Pakistan No 1 squash player and country's lone representative in PSA top 50 Nasir Iqbal dumped out at the first hurdle in the Hong Kong Football Club $25,000 Squash Championship.
Nasir was beaten by local lad and seed No 4 Max Lee in straight games in just 24 minutes. The Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) is spending huge amount of money on Nasir, ignoring all the other players , but for the second event in running, Nasir failed to even cross the first round. Earlier, Nasir was dumped out in the British Open in qualifiers and now he failed to beat even a lowly-ranked player. What is the reason behind spending huge national exchequer on just one player who is unable to earn desired results?
This attitude should be changed without any further delay; otherwise, no player will be ready to bear this injustice any longer. One of the most senior players , while sharing his views on condition of anonymity, said: “I have beaten Max Lee many times and if Nasir can't beat an average player like Lee then what is the purpose of wasting national money on him? There are other talented players , who, if provided with even half incentives which Nasir has been getting, can give more than desired results. We are going to launch a strong protest with PSF senior vice president Air Vice Marshal Syed Razi Nawab to look into this highly-biased attitude and ensure all the players get equal and just treatment.” “Nasir lost the first game 11-5, second 11-7 and was trailing 6-1 in the third game before retiring hurt. If Nasir is not match-fit then why he was sent on the PSF expenses and the federation should reconsider their policies or be prepared to face the players’ wrath,” he concluded.
