KARACHI - City police chief and Additional IGP among four AIGs and five deputy inspector generals (DIG)s have been removed from their slots by the Sindh government on the directives of Supreme Court here on Thursday. Sindh government has also notified AIG Ghulam Qadir Thebo as the new city police chief .
Four additional IGs and five DIGs, working on the Own Pay Scale (OPS), have been removed from their posts following the orders of the Supreme Court. These officers were disentitled for the slots and promoted out-of-turn.
Ghulam Qadir Thebo has been appointed as new Additional Inspector General of Police Karachi soon after the removal of former police chief .
Shahid Hayat was appointed as police chief on December 6, 2013, who remained controversial since the day one because of the Karachi operation. Hayat claimed to have declined the crime rate in the City but no change has been witnessed except decline in Lyari gang war.
It is worth mentioning here on May 9, Supreme Court had directed the Sindh government to remove the officer working on OPS. Sources privy to the matter revealed that as many as 1,000 officers were working on the same status in various departments of the Sindh government.
