LAHORE - As many as 64 improper and dangerous U-turns have completely been closed on the national highways in last two months.

Motorway Police Central Zone adopting a policy of zero tolerance closed 33 U-turns in the Sector Okara, 28 in Sector Multan and three in Sector Rahim Yar Khan.  

The NH&MP closed U-turns in the area of Lahore, Manga Mandi, Pattoki, Okara, Sahiwal, Chichawatni, Mian Chanu, Khanewal, Multan, Basti Malook, Lodhran, Bhawalpur, Ahmed Pur East, Rahim Yar Khan and Sadiq Abad. The improper and dangerous U-turns are the most serious threat to road safety and can result in serious injuries and fatalities. In 2015, illegal U-turn caused accidents and deaths of 14 people on national highways.

DIG Mirza Faran Baig said this while observing special campaign against illegal U-turns. SSP Masroor Alam Kolachi was also present. The DIG said illegal U-turns on national highways were permanent hazard for smooth flow of traffic and road safety. He instructed the Sector Commander to enhance the coordination with NHA to remove illegal U-turns and encroachments.
