PESHAWAR - Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Sherpao Sunday said Panama leaks controversy has created a sense of political and economic stagnation in the country.

He demanded of the government and opposition to finalize ToRs for the commission as soon as possible in order to end this issue.

QWP chief expressed these remarks during a public gathering in village Hattar, Haripur.

QWP Provincial Chairman and KP Senior Minister Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao, KP Minister for Minerals and Mines Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli, Special Assistant to CM KP for Industry and Commerce, Abdul Karim Khan Tordher and QWP leader Baidar Shah were also present on the occasion.

Aftab Sherpao further said Panama Leaks’ report had disrupted the entire political environment of the country and it is mandatory for the government to take opposition into confidence and take bold decisions regarding formation of an independent commission to probe the matter.

On the occasion, Aftab Sherpao also showed concerns over blocking of $450m in aid to Pakistan by the US House of Representatives, and said that Pakistan has rendered both human and financial losses due to war against terrorism, and the entire world acknowledged Islamabad’s efforts regarding fight with terror elements.

The proposal to suspend military aid by the House through National Defence Authorization Act 2017 may affect Pak-US relations in the future, he feared.

Commenting on CPEC, Aftab Sherpao said that China was the only friend in the region which wanted a stable and prosperous Pakistan, adding, “CPEC does not mean the construction of a road but it is a complete package to develop and connect remote areas of the country especially the militancy-hit areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA,” he said.

“Due to strategic position of the Hazara division, the route would definitely pass through this belt but construction of merely a road is not acceptable to us. We demand government to construct industrial zones, install optic fibre and initiate projects for power generation in this division as well as other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province as par CPEC agreement with Chinese government,” QWP chief said.

Aftab Sherpao further said that federal government has had differences with small provinces but it should not be biased with the people of these provinces.

He demanded of the government to give relief to the masses and ensure due shares of the small provinces in the upcoming annual budget 2016-17.
