LAHORE - The Punjab government has announced summer vacation for students in public sector and private educational institutions from May 24 (Tuesday) to August 14.

Severe heat wave has caused the authorities to revisit the earlier decision of commencing summer vacation from June 1. However, the institutions carrying out examinations can continue the same by submitting date sheets to relevant Executive District Officer Education.

Addressing a press conference at Committee Room of Schools Education Department yesterday, Education Minister Rana Mashood Ahmed Khan said that the decision of early summer break has been taken due to harsh weather conditions and difficulties for students and their parents.

As the meteorological department has predicted no relief from the prevailing heat wave till June 15, the minister said that there were reports of fainting of students in some educational institutions.

He added that the government could not take risk of exposing children to harsh weather conditions.

Schools would open on Monday (today) for giving homework to students.

According to the minister, the summer vacations have been announced after due consultation with representatives of private schools organisations.
