Seniors fight to win over Juniors in Exhibition Hockey

LAHORE - The Pakistan Seniors team edged aside the Juniors in the second Exhibition Hockey match arranged by the Paksitan Hockey Federation in place of the postponed series against Indian juniors hereat the National Hockey Stadium. Similar match was played at Karachi which was won by the juniors but that was against the veterans of the game and today's games was played against the senior team members. In the presence of about 8000 hockey fans, Seniors converted three goals to win over the fighting Juniors, who in turn produced two. Governor Punjab Salman Taseer was the chief guest of the match and gave the prizes to the participating players in a ceremony that was followed by a musical evening. The match began on the beat music and cheers of the crowd for the first time under light in the city. It were the Seniors who opened the account in the 21st minute of the game when Akhtar Ali made full use of a field move to achieve the opener. But that lead short-lived when in the 34th minute, Shahbaz levelled the score from the Junior side and that even score lasted till the half time. Saqlain began the second half on a firing note and brought the second goal for Seniors in the 37th minute. While Shabbir utlised the short-corner to the optimum bringing in the third goal for the Seniors that made the score 3-1. The Juniors, however, did not let go the match easily and started attacks after attacks. They got just one goal in the 67th minute when Shafqat Rasool banged the board. Both the teams got three penalty-corners but Seniors scored only on one.
