Three cops die as Bannu post rocketed

BANNU (Agencies) - At least three policemen killed and two injured including a child when some unknown miscreants assailed a police checkpost at Lorra Pull in Mundan area here in the wee hours of Saturday. At about 4am a group of terrorists attacked a police checkpost in Mundan with rockets and lethal weapons, said an official of the district police. The contingents of regular and frontier reserve police in the checkpost strike back and the crossfire continued for quite some time, he added. The police official said, the miscreants fired at least six rockets at the checkpost that caused damage to the building as well. As a result of severe firing by the miscreants, three cops died. An ASI and constable and a six-year-old child injured in the shootout. The dead cops have been identified as Naseerullah, Muhammad Khan and Khalid Niaz. Heavy contingent of paramilitary forces have been sent in the area in search of the miscreants. Meanwhile, a telegraph office and primary school were blown up with explosive material by unknown militants in Mohmad Agency on Saturday. It was learnt that a primary school in Sauran Dara and an old telegraph office in the area of Darwaz Gai were blown up by some unknown militants. However, no casualty was reported in both the blasts. Monitoring Desk adds: Shelling during clashes between security forces and militants in Bajaur Agency has killed six women who were fetching water for home use. The incident took place in Karparrai area of Gawala Wara Mamond Tehsil of the Agency, reported BBC on Saturday. Local people said the women were on their way home from the water-source when they became victim of shelling by security forces. A government official, while talking to BBC, said that he had heard about the incident but he was not able to tell the exact number of killings or other details.
