A sound human capital is indispensable to economic growth and success of any country. Unfortunately, human development that could lead to human capital has remained a dream in Pakistan even after the passage of 63 years. Mass illiteracy, poverty, unemployment and ethnicity have been the main roadblocks in the way of effective and powerful human capital. We, as a nation, cannot make substantial progress unless and until we take serious effort towards betterment of the socio-economic condition of our society. There is no doubt that in human development lies the real progress of a society. The sooner we focus our energies towards developing human capital, the better it would be for the social, political and economic growth of our society. ABDUL SAMAD SAMO, Karachi, November 22.
