ISLAMABAD Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has appointed Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) MNA Hamid Yar Hiraj Chairman Earthquake Reconstruction & Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) after the resignation of Saleem Altaf as Chairman ERRA on personal grounds and which was accepted by the Prime Minister. Hamid Yar Hiraj, MNA holds Masters degrees in Finance from the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania and in Tax Law from California State University San Francisco, USA. Previously, he held the portfolios of as Minister of State for EAD, Health and Commerce. Hamid Yar Hiraj would serve as ERRA Chairman on honorary basis. In separate meetings with the newly appointed and the outgoing chairmen of the authority, at the PM House here Monday afternoon, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that keeping in view the important function of the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of the Earthquake affected areas, the newly appointed chairman would utilise all his abilities to carry forward the governments reconstruction agenda in these areas. He asked the new chairman to maximise the level of coordination and transparency as maintained by the authority. The prime minister also appreciated the services of the outgoing Chairman ERRA. Saleem Altaf thanked the Prime Minister for his continued support during the discharge of his official duties. It is pertinent to mention here that former Chairman ERRA Saleem Altaf had tendered his resignation in March 2008 but PM Gilani did not accept his resignation. Altafs resignation was finally accepted after the lapse of over two years by the PM to pave way for the appointment of Hamid Yar Hiraj.
