The plight of litigation is quite precarious in Pakistan writes Dr. Sabur Ghayur in a recently published article. According to him and generally known statistics, the number of pending cases is very high. In Punjab, the judiciary has to deal with a list of more than 1500 cases per day. The present infrastructure of judicial courts is insufficient to cope with the challenge. To address the issue, a mechanism known as Alternative Dispute Resolution is in position. ADR provides an alternative platform to seek resolution through other means. It takes away the load already on the courts. It however, appears that the ADR has not been established owing to bureaucratic delays and laidback attitude of the executive. A.Q ANJUM, Rawalpindi, November 20.
