LAHORE - Robbers gunned down a 45-year-old man at his doorstep shortly after he offered resistance to thwart house robbery attempt in the wee hours of Monday in Shadbagh area, police sources said. Abdul Latif, a resident of Bhagatpura, was coming back home after offering Fajr prayer at a nearby mosque on early Monday. As he reached his house and opened the gate, suddenly two unknown gunmen on a motorcycle appeared there. The bandits held him up at gunpoint and asked him to move inside. The dacoits holding Latif hostage wanted to force their entry into the house, a police source said, adding, but the farther of two put up resistance and tried to overpower the bandits. As he tried to overpower one of the robbers, the other shot fires at him. Latif sustained multiple bullet wounds and fell on the ground while the robbers managed to escape from the crime scene. After hearing the gunfire, locals came out of their houses and witnessed Latif lying in a pool of blood outside his house. They contacted the police immediately and informed them about the happening. But the police did not turn up even after an hour. The injured died while being rushed to a nearby hospital as he was bleeding heavily. The police have registered a case and are investigating. The body was sent to a morgue for autopsy. This year, no less than 52 people have been murdered as they put up resistance during armed robberies here in the City, according to police record. Few days ago, gunmen killed 45-year-old senior auditor Muhammad Saleem at the doorstep of his Awan Town residence for offering resistance. A couple of weeks ago, robbers gunned down a 40-year-old trader on offering resistence during a daylight robbery attempt at his shop situated at Ferozepur Road, Citys leading artery in the vicinity of Icchra police. The alarming increase in the incidents of robberies and dacoity-cum-murder had exposed the police performance as the police have completely failed to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens.
