KARACHI Wapda moved to a position of strength against Karachi Blues when bowlers Rana Naveed and Nawaz Sardar ran through the home sides batting on the first day of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Div-1 match. The match resumed here Monday after Eid holidays at the National Stadium. The two pacers equally shared eight wickets with Nawaz Sardar returning sensational figures of four for five runs in 7.5 overs while more experienced Rana Naveed gave away 66 for his four wickets as Karachi Blues were bowled out for 128. Karachi openers Naveed Khan top scored with 42. At stumps on the first day, Wapda, supported by a fine opening stand of 66 between Rifatullah and Adil Nisar, had posted 116 for the loss of Adil who contributed 36 in the opening stand. Rifatullah was unbeaten 55 and Shoaib Masood was 22 not out. In the division II of the championship, Karachi Whites had scored 251 for four wickets against Hyderabad at UBL ground number I on the first day of the four-day event. Wajihuddin was not out 89 at the draw of stumps. The other unbeaten batsman at the crease is Abdul Jabbar 61. Karachi Whites opener Shahzaib Hasan produced 59 with the help of nine fours in 92 balls. Medium pacer Hanifur Rehman took two for 35 for Hyderabad.
