SADIQABAD - The federal government has imposed a ban on issuance of new commercial and domestic gas connections, adding to the peoples grievances as winter season has started in district Rahim Yar Khan. However, the issuance of connections is nowhere in sight even to those applicants who have submitted their demand notices. The citizens have expressed disappointment over the governments policies and demanded immediate lifting of the ban on gas connections. The information about the ban was broken out by Sui Southern Gas Pipelines Rahim Yar Khan In-Charge and Deputy Chief Mubashar Habib. The federal government has imposed a ban on new gas connections for an indefinite period, the official said. Likewise, SSGPL Distribution In-Charge Muhammad Anwar said that the Bahawalpur Division in-charge gave him the ban orders by phone. Afterwards, he added, work on issuance of new connections had been stopped. The people of the district including Ashraf, Irham demanded that the government should immediately lift the ban on new gas connections, saying that they had submitted their demand notices and were waiting for the connection, but the ban had disappointed them. According to Mr Mubashar, new gas connections were being issued turn by turn on the demand notices submitted till April 2011 but after the ban, work in this regard had been halted. Moreover, he said, the connection under MNA quota, were being issued in shorter period.
