LAHORE – Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Muhammad Aslam Tareen has said that more than 200 plainclothesmen will remain on their toes among the mourners during the main Muharram procession. No outsider will be allowed to move towards the procession route while hundreds of well-equipped cops will also be deployed on the high-rise buildings located on both sides of the route to keep a vigilant eye on the activities of the miscreants.

The CCPO stated this while addressing a joint-level meeting held at the Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh on Thursday to review security arrangements in Lahore. Senior officers from Investigation, Operation wing of the Lahore police, Counter-Terrorism Department and Special Branch also attended the meeting. Tareen also told the police that they should accept security duties in Muharram as a challenge and they must perform their duties with dedication and commitment.

The CCPO further said that the police would utilise all available resources to provide protection to majalis, processions, and mourners during the holy month of Muharram.

Heavy search lights are being installed on the route of the main procession besides streetlights at specific points while generators would also be fixed at different points in order to ensure alternative electric supply in case of power breakdown. According to Aslam Tareen, a large number of CCTV cameras were also being installed to keep a vigilant eye on the activities of the participants of the procession. Apart from control room in every police division, the central control room would be established in the office of the DIG (operations) to ensure surveillance and monitoring of the main procession.
