NANKANA SAHIB - The district police claimed to have arrested five people for killing a teenage student for ransom.

According to DPO Ghulam Mubashir Maken, the police registered a kidnapping case on the application Tariq Mahmood on November 8 who submitted that his son Abid Tariq was kidnapped when he went to his college, Sangla Hill Govt Islamia College.  “The kidnappers demanded Rs2.5 million for his ransom,” the DPO said, adding that a team under Sangla Hill Circle DSP nicked the abductors. They were named as Khizar Hayyat (mastermind), Sikander Hayyat, Iftekhar, Ishtiaq Baber and Samina Bibi.

The inquest heard Khizar, a relative of the victim, came to Jhaal Shahkot after taking Abid Tariq from Sangla Hill where Ashfaq Baber tranquilized the victim who was later murdered at Bikehi Canal by them. They threw the body into the canal to conceal their crime. His belongings, including books, eyeglasses and shoes helped ascertain the identity after the body was found near the canal bank.  The DPO announced awards for his team.
