Cultivation of seedless citrus

MULTAN (APP): The Agriculture department has advised farmers to cultivate citrus fruits as it is vital to generate reasonable foreign exchange and help improve farmers financial position.  According to the Agriculture department, citrus fruits are being cultivated on an areas 199,000 acres in the country. The total production of citrus fruit is nearly 2 million tons.  Agriculture department spokesperson Naveed Asmat Kohlon informed that country achieved 79 million dollars foreign exchange by exporting 400,000 ton fruit last year. The export of citrus fruits has achieved new heights during the last few years, he said.

He informed that fruits played vital role in improving health and resisting different diseases including blood pressure, cancer and many stomach complications.

The agriculture department official informed that Citrus Research Institute imported some seedless varities and did lot of work to promote these varities in the country. He claimed that seedless varities come up with good results.

About different varities of “Malta”, lemon and grapefruits, he informed that Shamber, marshurli, trako, salistiana, redbulish, free mount and fair child achieved immense admiration. Naveed Asmat Kohlon urged the farmers to cultivate the recommended verities to obtain maximum revenue from fruits.

Provisional list of voters displayed for FPCCI polls

LAHORE (APP): The provisional list of registered voters for the coming annual election of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has been displayed. FPCCI sources told APP Saturday that voters list comprising two each nominees of 57 chambers, five women chambers, one small traders chambers and 102 affiliated Pakistan associations have been enrolled for exercising their right to vote in FPCCI election being held on December 29. Any aggrieved person, can file appeal against the provincial voters list to the Regulator of Trade Organizations and if any, will be taken up on December 1, followed by display of final list on December 3.

The nomination papers for the election to the office of President, Senior VP and 10 VPs including one woman VP will be issued on December 4 with December 8 as last date for submission.

All nomination papers must be duly proposed and seconded by the executive committee members and signed by the candidates.

UVAS VC urges farmers to Pak-Turk commercial ties to further strengthen: Diplomat

ISLAMABAD (APP): Commercial Attache of Turkey Rohi Denies on Saturday said that there were adequate opportunities of investment in Pakistan as the government had provided a conducive environment of investment and business promotion in the country. Addressing a seminar here, Denies said the commercial ties between the two countries would be strengthened with the exchange of high level visits, said a press release. The Turkish Commercial Attache said there was need to promote culture and tourism exchange programmes between Pakistan and Turkey and tourists could enjoy the scenic beauty by benefitting tourism facilities of Turkish organizations.

An exhibition of Pakistani and Turkish products was also organized on the occasion.

cultivate fodder

LAHORE (APP): The Vice Chancellor of the University of Veterinary and Animals Sciences (UVAS), Prof Talat Naseer Pasha has said mostly farmers prefer cultivation of cash crops like cotton, sugarcane instead of fodder which is equally necessary and need of animals for their better nutrition. He said this while speaking at a concluding session of training workshop on Improved Agronomic Practices organized by UVAS in collaboration with the Agriculture Sector Linkage Programme (ASLP). The workshop was aimed to develop animal nutrition and basic agronomy practices of fodder and to develop village-based seed enterprise, etc.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha chaired the concluding session and gave away certificates to participants. He called for improving nutrient products on per acre available land.

Dr Hassan Mahmood Warraich spoke about ASLP project updates, extension works from various districts of Punjab and Sindh.

Food festival at Peshawar PC held

peshawar (Staff Reporter): Living up to its tradition for arranging family events, Pearl Continental hotel arranged a three days ‘Regional Food Festival’ in its green lawn on Saturday. All the provinces of Pakistan are being represented in this food festival and food and culture depicting the true colors of Pakistan.
