Depression in youth

The statistical report of a "Multi-center study" conducted on the Pakistani medical students in 2014 shows that almost 45.5% of these students are suffering from depression and anxiety. It’s really an alarming situation because we have the largest number of youth in the world and they’re the future builders of this country but their unfit mental condition increases the uncertainty of its fate.
The leading cause for all distress in our youth is the social pressure from society to crave for lust of a rich and stable life style. Pakistan being a third world country has a compromised developing system and most of the young belong to a middle class background. Hence, the expectations of a typical Pakistani family from its young child about achieving high goals and doing the undone in the family are no secret.
All this social pressure is doing no good as compared to the damage it is causing by producing a mentally unfit mob of youngsters who are always worried about their future and could never focus on their abilities and how to get themselves recognized by just polishing them. So putting their energies in the wrong direction exhausts them both physically and mentally. The cure to this problem lies only in educating our masses about it. It is the duty of parents to be supportive to their children and understand their capabilities. They should not put undue pressure on them rather guide them and let them choose the right course of action for their lives by themselves, no matter what the society says.
