Harrison Ford has launched a new charity initiative offering fans the chance to win tickets to the premiere of star wars: episode vii - the force awakens.
The veteran actor, who reprises his Han Solo character in the upcoming instalment, has teamed up with charity initiative Omaze.com to continue the Star Wars: Force for Change campaign, which was launched by director JJ Abrams last year.
Harrison can be seen surprising fans in a video call to announce the latest competition, which offers devotees the chance to win tickets to a premiere in either Los Angeles or London by donating to the fundraising page. Two lucky winners will receive four tickets each to either premiere, where they will meet the cast, watch the film and attend the afterparty.
In the video chat with fans who have previously donated to the drive, Harrison explains, “Thank you very much for donating last time. We raised over $4 million for great causes, and we’re hoping to repeat it this time.” He then turns to the camera and adds, “Now it’s your turn. Join me and the cast in supporting some remarkable causes for your chance to attend the red carpet for Stars Wars: The Force Awakens.”
The funds raised will be split between 14 non-profit organisations nominated by the cast, including the Malala Fund, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
In the first part of the campaign, $4 million (£2.5 million) was raised by fans competing for the chance to win a cameo role in the movie. The prize was given to DC Barns from Denver, Colorado.
The sci-fi adventure opens in cinemas next month.
