ISLAMABAD - Three players of Jahangir Khan Squash Academy (JKSA) have qualified for the finals of the Rs 0.5 million Chief of Air Staff (CAS) Junior Squash Championship currently underway at Hashim Khan Squash Complex, Peshawar.
Talking to The Nation, JKSA head coach Asif Khan said: “We have worked for only last few months on different age group kids in Karachi and our efforts have started paying great dividend. The way, the players have responded, is quite heartening and it will give us further heart to work with more passion and dedication. Jahangir Khan is also very deeply involved, as he frequently visits the camp and gives tips to the academy players, which is the major reason behind players taking giant strides as far as national rankings are concerned.” In U-11 event, Huzaifa Ibrahim beat Fahad Sharif 3-0. Huzaifa won the first game 11-3, second 11-5 and the third game 12-10 to score win. In the U-13 event, Mansoor Zaman Junior routed Salman Saleem 3-1 as Mansoor lost the first game 10-12, before bouncing back to win the next three 11-6, 12-10, 11-6 to book final date.
In U-19 semifinal, Mehran Javed beat Ali Karamat 3-1, as Mehran took the first game 11-5, but Ali bounced back to win the second game 11-9, but Mehran prevailed in the third game winning it 12-10. Same was the case in the fourth game, but Ali made some crucial mistakes, which cost him dearly as Mehran took the fourth game 12-10, thus reached the final.
Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) president Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman would likely grace the finals as chief guest and distribute prizes among players.
