KASUR-Citizens expressed concerns over the alleged irregularities in the Auqaf Department after the Auqaf manager was, reportedly, found involved in misappropriation of funds released for shrines’ restoration in the district.
According to the report of a survey conducted by this correspondent, social and political figures of the district are not satisfied with the performance of the Auqaf manager. PML-N leader Ch Ashfaq, PTI Councillor Imran Zaib and others alleged that the manager is allegedly embezzling funds which were released for restoration of different shrines in the district. They alleged that condition of the shrines in the district is further deteriorating as the released funds have never been used for the purpose, adding the Auqaf manager is also involved in getting funds released on fake slips. Moreover, he also awards tenders to his blue-eyed contractors allegedly to loot public money according to his desire. “Besides, the most disgusting and condemnable thing is that the Auqaf manager, through his men, is also involved in stealing money from charity boxes of the shrines,” they blamed.
They demanded Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Auqaf secretary to look into the matter and order officials concerned to probe the matter thoroughly and find out the truth behind these irregularities.
When contacted, the Auqaf manager rejected all the allegations levelled against him, terming them baseless.
