LAHORE:- Pakistan Industrial & Traders Associations Front (PIAF) has termed the non-payment of Sales Tax refund as the biggest reason for persistent decline in the country’s exports, asking the government to resolve the issue on priority basis. PIAF Chairman Irfan Iqbal Sheikh urged the government to announce a relief package at earliest for export industry so that trade deficit could be curtailed. “Our exports are on declining trend for the last three years and it might continue if policies were not changed.–Staff Reporter

We are becoming uncompetitive with our regional competitors who are getting electricity and gas at much cheaper rates. Similarly their governments are also providing them extra incentives and subsides,” he added.

He urged the government to provide a level-playing field to exporters to compete with their rival countries in the international market. He stressed the need for taking the industry representatives on board for evolving an effective and prudent policy to make the country’s products competitive in the global market.

He was of the view that huge taxes, unnecessary intervention of the government departments, blackmailing of the government officials unaffordable electricity tariff and power outages are main hurdles for declining of exports.
